Romelia: WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF YOUR ARTISTIC PROCESS?
Queen P: It’s most difficult when I’m in my zone writing and suddenly someone knocks on my door and starts talking to me. That totally destroys the vibe. I usually lose that flow and I have to try to get the vibe back to get the creative juices flowing again.
Romelia: DOES YOUR FAMILY SUPPORT YOUR CAREER AS A WRITER?
Queen P: My immediate family is very supportive of my writing career.
Romelia: IF YOU HAD TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENTLY AS A CHILD OR TEENAGER TO BECOME A BETTER WRITER AS AN ADULT, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
Queen P: I would’ve taken journalism courses back in middle school and high school as well as join the newspaper clubs to be better versed with punctuation and grammar.
Romelia: HOW LONG ON AVERAGE DOES IT TAKE YOU TO WRITE A BOOK?
Queen P: On average, it has taken me about 7 months to a year to write my two books.
Romelia: DO YOU BELIEVE IN WRITER’S BLOCK?
Queen P: I totally believe in writer’s block. As a poetess, there have been times when nothing creative came through my mind to write. It lasted for weeks on end and I felt completely stuck.
Romelia: AT WHAT POINT DO YOU THINK SOMEONE SHOULD CALL THEMSELVES A WRITER?
Queen P: When you are comfortable within yourself because when you call yourself a writer, you must be ready to have conversations and be knowledgeable of what you’re talking about.
Romelia: WHAT DIFFERENCE DO YOU SEE BETWEEN A WRITER AND AN AUTHOR?
Queen P: Basically I believe that a writer is someone who writes unpublished work , and an author is one who writes a body of work that eventually gets published into a book or magazine, etc.
Romelia: HOW DO YOU PROCESS AND DEAL WITH NEGATIVE BOOK REVIEWS?
Queen P: I have not received a negative review as of yet but if I did, I’d read the review to see if I should take it into consideration. Sometimes negative criticism can be helpful in bettering your writing.
Romelia: WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF YOUR WRITING PROCESS?
Queen P: The most difficult part of my writing process is finding the proper wording for each poem. I want the words to be read with a clear understanding of what it is that I am trying to say.
Romelia: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WRITING OR WHEN DID YOU START?
Queen P: I have always written from the time that I was a child but I never shared my work with anyone. I only started writing publicly last year in April of 2019.
Romelia: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A WRITER WORKING ON THEIR FIRST BOOK?
Queen P: Keep writing on a regular basis, even if it doesn’t make any sense. Write, write, write. Make sure that you read regularly because that will help with the vocabulary. Don’t stress, it will all work out and have fun.
Romelia: WHAT, TO YOU, ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENTS OF GOOD WRITING?
Queen P: You must know what you’re writing about and why. Know your target audience. Make sure that the content is understandable to the reader and makes sense. Remember to be organized.
Romelia: WHAT COMES FIRST FOR YOU – THE PLOT OR THE CHARACTERS – AND WHY?
Queen P: My poetry is written about life experiences so there’s really no characters. If I were writing a story, in my mind I believe that the plot would come first and then the characters.
Romelia: HOW DO YOU DEVELOP YOUR PLOT AND CHARACTERS?
Queen P: For writing my poetry books, I develop a theme and then create poems that fit the genre. As far as characters go as I discussed previously, it’s all about life experiences.
Romelia: WHEN DID YOU FIRST CALL YOURSELF A WRITER?
Queen P: I first called myself a writer after I started writing my poems and sharing them publicly on social media a year ago.
Romelia: HOW DO YOU USE SOCIAL MEDIA AS AN AUTHOR?
Queen P: I use social media as the major platform for my marketing and promotions. It’s a fast and effective way to get your information out for the world to see.
Romelia: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE PART OF PUBLISHING?
Queen P: I haven’t had many issues with publishing since I have always used a publishing company.
Romelia: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO AN AUTHOR WHO WANTED TO DESIGN THEIR OWN COVER?
Queen P: As far as the cover design goes I believe that they should have input in designing since it is their book. I had full control with how I wanted my book cover to look even though I used a publishing company. At the end of the day, it’s your book, make it your own.
Romelia: HOW MANY BOOKS HAVE YOU WRITTEN AND WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE?
Queen P: I’ve written 2 books ”When the mood is right a poetry journey” &”Mood swings”. I also co-authored a book “The pivot anthology”. I cannot really choose a favorite because they are all special to me.
Romelia: WHAT PART OF THE BOOK DID YOU HAVE THE HARDEST TIME WRITING?
Queen P: The hardest part of writing ”Mood swings” was deciding on the placement of the poems.
Romelia: WHAT PART OF THE BOOK WAS THE MOST FUN TO WRITE?
Queen P: It was fun to write the acknowledgements because I am expressing my love and gratitude to the people in my life that are very special and have purpose.
Romelia: WHICH OF THE CHARACTERS DO YOU RELATE TO THE MOST AND WHY?
Queen P: There aren’t any characters in my poetry book as it’s all about experiences of life.
Romelia: IF YOU’RE PLANNING A SEQUEL. CAN YOU SHARE A TINY BIT ABOUT YOUR PLANS FOR IT?
Queen P: I am writing a trilogy. #The final book will explore being free after going through life’s journey from the previous books.
Romelia: TELL US SOMETHING FUNNY ABOUT YOUR ADULT LIFE.
Queen P: I have a tendency (at any given moment) to just burst into belting out a high pitched note just because.
Romelia: describe yourself in a few sentences. Tell us something we do not know about you and something you hate about the world.
Queen P: I’m a quiet soul with a big heart. I believe in being truthful and not beating around the bush. Music soothes my soul. Something you don’t know about me is that as a child up until my college years, I played the piano. I hate that the world is so full of hate.
