AUTHOR INTERVIEW 41

Sharon Swathi Gaddala

Hyderabad, India

Are you GREAT? Do you have DREAMS? Are your dreams BIG ENOUGH?

My comprehension of becoming great, does not mean you have to be the next President of your country, a Beauty Pageant winner or become a Celebrity. Becoming great is not a competition with others, it is a competition with yourself, by daring to dream, having a plan to achieve them in your own way, with your own rules, from your own power you make your own choices and conquer your world by consistently evolving who you are. It is what you OWN, your UNIQUE power, as unique as your fingerprints.

I have a purpose, which compelled me to write this book. From 1.3 billion (and counting…) people in India, I am that one girl, you can relate to, from a middle class family (I really don’t know where this middle is but..) with not so average but super ambitious dreams.

Romelia: WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF YOUR ARTISTIC PROCESS?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Time, tweaking my time from work, my daughter and managing home.

Romelia: DOES YOUR FAMILY SUPPORT YOUR CAREER AS A WRITER?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Absolutely, they always always support me with what I want to pursue.

Romelia: IF YOU HAD TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENTLY AS A CHILD OR TEENAGER TO BECOME A BETTER WRITER AS AN ADULT, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Probably some coaching at some stage, highlighting pros and cons for writers.

Romelia: HOW LONG ON AVERAGE DOES IT TAKE YOU TO WRITE A BOOK?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: 2-3 months.

Romelia: DO YOU BELIEVE IN WRITER’S BLOCK?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Splendidly, I do.

Romelia: AT WHAT POINT DO YOU THINK SOMEONE SHOULD CALL THEMSELVES A WRITER?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: The moment someone writes something which can be verified and attested publicly.

Romelia: WHAT DIFFERENCE DO YOU SEE BETWEEN A WRITER AND AN AUTHOR?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Writer is more liquid and flowy they are open to writing anything like blogs, articles or story. Author is someone who focuses on writing some sort of book.

Romelia: HOW DO YOU PROCESS AND DEAL WITH NEGATIVE BOOK REVIEWS?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: The way I perceive a negative review is that they are from one of my readers and are his/her observations which is absolutely accepted. I read and absorb what will help me from that review and discard what will not help me to be constructive. A negative review does not affect me since I cannot convince every mind and thought process which is subjective to every individual.

Romelia: WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF YOUR WRITING PROCESS?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Since I did not hire a professional for editing my book, I went over at least 30 times doing editing. This was definitely cumbersome and the most difficult part especially when I know I am just a step away from publishing my book.

Romelia: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WRITING OR WHEN DID YOU START?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Ah! Since I was a teenager. I wrote journals whenever I could and still have them. I wrote poetry too.

Romelia: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A WRITER WORKING ON THEIR FIRST BOOK?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Just write and get to finish line. You will someday get to publishing your book and once this happens the joy is exquisite. You also have a perk of adding AUTHOR to your name, isn’t that amazing?

Romelia: WHAT, TO YOU, ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENTS OF GOOD WRITING?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Connecting to what is written and of course grammar.

Romelia: WHAT COMES FIRST FOR YOU – THE PLOT OR THE CHARACTERS – AND WHY?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: I don`t consider myself a fictional writer, I am more of a non-fiction writer. Whatever I write is an inspiration from true story.

Romelia: HOW DO YOU DEVELOP YOUR PLOT AND CHARACTERS?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: N/A

Romelia: WHEN DID YOU FIRST CALL YOURSELF A WRITER?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Only after I authored my first book.

Romelia: HOW DO YOU USE SOCIAL MEDIA AS AN AUTHOR?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: To market and advertise. Social media is a good tool if used appropriately.

Romelia: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE PART OF PUBLISHING?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Waiting time, it sucks ugh!

Romelia: WHAT WOULD YOU TO AN AUTHOR WHO WANTED TO DESIGN THEIR OWN COVER?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Go for it, no one can design a cover page the way you image it to be in your thoughts. I did mine, precisely the way I wanted.

Romelia: HOW MANY BOOKS HAVE YOU WRITTEN AND WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Only 1 for now, penned a couple of more. My first book radiates happiness like no other, for me firsts are always special.

Romelia: WHAT PART OF THE BOOK DID YOU HAVE THE HARDEST TIME WRITING?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Acknowledgements, honestly, being concise was difficult.

Romelia: WHAT PART OF THE BOOK WAS THE MOST FUN TO WRITE?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Humor, I literally stopped writing for a while and laughed boisterously.

Romelia: WHICH OF THE CHARACTERS DO YOU RELATE TO THE MOST AND WHY?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: N/A

Romelia: IF YOU’RE PLANNING A SEQUEL. CAN YOU SHARE A TINY BIT ABOUT YOUR PLANS FOR IT?

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: N/A

Romelia: TELL US SOMETHING FUNNY ABOUT YOUR ADULT LIFE.

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: Pass

Romelia: describe yourself in a few sentences. Tell us something we do not know about you and something you hate about the world.

Sharon Swathi Gaddala: I am a mother, poet, author and compliance auditor. I write poems and quotations when I get inspired. My mood sways me to some binge reading, A gigantic fan of Trevor Noah.  I follow Nabeel Qureshi, David Woods, Ravi Zacharias and many other Spiritual leaders. With my quest to learn anything new, I consistently strive to become a better person than yesterday!

I believe and have immense faith in JESUS and with him I can do all things for he strengthened me. I know what death is gosh so I make sure I live and celebrate every moment, until I will get to rest in peace. I definitely want to be remembered for what I was at least for 2 generations after me, so my work is in progress on getting my legacy in place.
