Age 53

Scott Kimak is a history teacher and Kung Fu master. He came up with the story “I call him – HIM” when he was a teenager but failed miserably to put pen to paper. It took nearly forty years for him to make a second attempt. This time the words flowed unrestrained. Mr. Kimak lives in Harlingen Texas with the love of his life Diana.
In a post-apocalyptic world, a warrior and his family are driven underground, fighting for their very survival.

When they do emerge, the futuristic planet they discover is very different from the one they left behind. Ruled by an evil presence which dominates and controls what is left of mankind, Earth has been reduced to a violent place of darkness, grief and destruction.

I call him HIM follows the journey of this unnamed warrior as he loses both his family and his mind. As he hits rock bottom, all he can think of is his insatiable yearning for revenge until he meets a young girl called Angelica who shows him the true power of faith. Her youth, innocence and strength of character reminds him of everything he has lost and the things which really matter.

But as the armies of the world rise up for the ultimate battle of good versus evil, can Angelica help him regain his sanity and rediscover himself before it is too late?

Author Scott W Kimak takes the classic theme of good and evil and gives it a modern twist in this inspiring tale of the importance of keeping hope in the bleakest of circumstances.

Romelia:   WHAT IS A SIGNIFICANT WAY YOUR BOOK HAS CHANGED SINCE THE FIRST DRAFT?

Scott Kimak:   My first draft was started forty years ago. Since then, I’ve incorporated actual experiences from my life. Some of the flashback scenes are lightly based on things from my past.

Romelia:   WHAT PERSPECTIVES OR BELIEFS HAVE YOU CHALLENGED WITH THIS WORK?

Scott Kimak:   Of coming together regardless of race. My characters are from several different races and they all work together against a common enemy – evil. When it comes down to it that should be our only differences – good versus evil.

Romelia:   WHAT INSPIRED THE IDEA FOR YOUR BOOK?

Scott Kimak:   As a child I attended a catholic school so the battle of good versus evil was instilled in our minds every day. I also became a huge fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs and his amazing stories. The combination of the two is what inspired me.

Romelia:   HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR BOOK’S IDEAL READER?

Scott Kimak:   That’s difficult to answer because my book is multi-genre. It has elements of Post-Apocalyptic, Fantasy, horror, suspense, mystery, romance, and Christianity. I believe it would be ideal for any reader.

Romelia:   HOW MUCH RESEARCH DID YOU NEED TO DO FOR YOUR BOOK?

Scott Kimak:   Very little, many parts of the story our based on my own experiences. The only thing I had to research were some of the locations in Houston Texas.

Romelia:   HOW IMPORTANT WAS PROFESSIONAL EDITING TO YOUR BOOK’S DEVELOPMENT?

Scott Kimak:   I never could have done it myself. I feel it’s extremely important to have your book professionally edited.

Romelia:   WHAT WAS YOUR HARDEST SCENE TO WRITE, AND WHY?

Scott Kimak:   I don’t have one. When I write it just flows and I find myself slip into that other world and become the character.

Romelia:   WHAT CHARACTERS IN YOUR BOOK ARE MOST SIMILAR TO YOU OR TO PEOPLE YOU KNOW?

Scott Kimak:   All of the characters in my book are taken from people I know in my life. Him is me. Bill is a combination of my friends. Angelica is my daughter. Katie is a younger version of my wife. And Seng Shan is a combination of my kung Fu teachers.

Romelia:   HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO WRITE THIS BOOK?

Scott Kimak:   I first came up with the idea forty years ago, but I didn’t start writing it until two years ago.

Romelia:   HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE TITLE FOR YOUR BOOK?

Scott Kimak:   I always had the main character as an unnamed warrior that didn’t speak. At first, I thought of a few titles like “The Dark Warrior” or “The Dark Rider” but then I decided to go with something unusual that would hopefully Stand out. That’s why I went with “I call him HIM”.

Romelia:   WOULD YOU AND YOUR MAIN CHARACTER GET ALONG?

Scott Kimak:   We have to because I am the main character, both good and Bad.

Romelia:   IF YOU COULD MEET YOUR CHARACTERS, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO THEM?

Scott Kimak:   Don’t give up hope and don’t stop fighting.

Romelia:   WHAT IS YOUR WRITING PROCESS LIKE? ARE YOU MORE OF A PLOTTER OR A PANTSER?

Scott Kimak:   I’m more of a pantser. I have a main skeleton of the story, but then as I start to write I feel myself become the character. From there, I let him/her dictate where the story leads.

Romelia:   WHAT DO YOU NEED IN YOUR WRITING SPACE TO HELP YOU STAY FOCUSED?

Scott Kimak:   I need absolute quiet. The only sound I have are the fans running to drown out any noise from the rest of the house.

Romelia:   IF YOU WERE TO WRITE A SPIN-OFF ABOUT A SIDE CHARACTER, WHICH WOULD YOU PICK?

Scott Kimak:   I’m planning on writing a whole series on Katie. She’s a young Mexican girl that grew up in southern Texas just like my wife. She’s a really fire-starter (Just like my wife) and I’m looking forward to getting her into some trouble.

Romelia:   IF YOU COULD SPEND A DAY WITH ANOTHER POPULAR AUTHOR, WHOM WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Scott Kimak:   R.A. Salvatore. I love the way he writes his battle scenes, and I would sure like to pick his brain.

Romelia:   WHAT IS YOUR SCHEDULE LIKE WHEN YOU’RE WRITING A BOOK?

Scott Kimak:   My schedule is crazy. I teach Government and Psychology during the day, and Kung fu fills up my nights. I squeeze my writing in on the weekends or during lunch.

Romelia:   HAVE YOU EVER TRAVELED AS RESEARCH FOR YOUR BOOK?

Scott Kimak:   No, I haven’t. The Trilogy takes place in southern Texas where I live.

Romelia:   WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE WRITING SNACK OR DRINK?

Scott Kimak:   Blueberry muffins. They’re my kryptonite.

Romelia:   HOW DO YOU CELEBRATE WHEN YOU FINISH YOUR BOOK?

Scott Kimak:   I haven’t yet. Maybe when the trilogy is finished.

Romelia:   WHAT RISKS HAVE YOU TAKEN WITH YOUR WRITING THAT HAVE PAID OFF?

Scott Kimak:   I had someone from Brazil make my first cover, and it turned out fantastic. I was so impressed that I had him make the second cover, and I plan on using him for the third book.

Romelia:   WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU GOOGLED YOURSELF AND WHAT DID YOU FIND?

Scott Kimak:   It’s been a while, but I was pretty big in the martial arts scene for a while so there was a bunch of stuff.

Romelia:   WHAT IS YOUR KRYPTONITE AS A WRITER?

Scott Kimak:   Amazon ads. I just can’t figure them out.

Romelia:   describe yourself in a few sentences. Tell us something we do not know about you and something you hate about the world.

Scott Kimak:   I’m a loving father, grandfather, and husband, and an extremely hard worker. I’m an avid D&D player and I still play every Saturday night with my kids. I hate that many people think with their emotions and jump to conclusions before researching the facts.
