Romelia: WHAT IS THE MOST VALUABLE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN ABOUT WRITING?
Phoenix Gibbs: The most valuable piece of advice is to right from my heart and be as authentic as possible so that the right energy can be attracted to my writing which creates authentic abundance.
Romelia: HOW MANY HOURS A DAY DO YOU WRITE?
Phoenix Gibbs: My writing style varies as I am always in creative mode and at times don’t have a pen and notebook close by, so I use my notes in my phone to jot down what comes to mind and then write it down later. Needless to say my notes on my phone are filled up with creative content from thoughts and feelings I experience daily.
Romelia: WHEN YOU ARE WRITING AN EMOTIONAL OR DIFFICULT SCENE, HOW DO SET THE MOOD?
Phoenix Gibbs: I go into prayer and meditation and ask my spirit guides to wrap their arms and wings around me to help me powerfully release any emotions I need to let go of so that I can write in a peaceful manner and not one of anger and hurt because that can create negative energy.
Romelia: WHOM DO YOU TRUST FOR OBJECTIVE AND CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM OF YOUR WORK?
Phoenix Gibbs: A few good friends who are in the Public Relations and Social Media Industry who I trust and love. I know they have my best interest at heart and will be completely honest with me.
Romelia: HOW DID YOU BECOME INVOLVED WITH THE SUBJECT OR THEME OF YOUR BOOK?
Phoenix Gibbs: I was spirit-led to create a book based on my life experiences and challenges to inspire and uplift humanity.
Romelia: WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WRITE IN YOUR PARTICULAR FIELD OR GENRE? IF YOU WRITE MORE THAN ONE, HOW DO YOU BALANCE THEM?
Phoenix Gibbs: I chose to write non-fiction because I wanted to share my truth and transparency for readers to feel my words and emotions and know that they are real.
Romelia: WHAT CULTURAL VALUE DO YOU SEE IN WRITING?
Phoenix Gibbs: I feel that the cultural value of writing brings forth emotional, mental, and spiritual healing in humanity because it allows for truth to be told and expressed.
Romelia: HOW DOES YOUR BOOK RELATE TO YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE OR OTHER LIFE PATH?
Phoenix Gibbs: It relates to my spiritual practice in the sense that it is teaching and sharing ways to overcome any obstacle with unconditional self-love, compassion and sharing how human beings can learn to be more caring and nurturing with themselves which helps them create a powerful connection with their inner selves as well as their guides.
Romelia: WHAT WERE YOUR GOALS AND INTENTIONS IN THIS BOOK, AND HOW WELL DO YOU FEEL YOU ACHIEVED THEM?
Phoenix Gibbs: My goal and intentions with this book is to continue to share my gifts of love, compassion and inspiration with humanity by creating powerful affirmations that can help in everyday life situations.
Romelia: CAN YOU SHARE SOME STORIES ABOUT PEOPLE YOU MET WHILE RESEARCHING THIS BOOK?
Phoenix Gibbs: My readers have told me that my book has helped them face their truths and no longer lie to themselves about things that have been holding them emotionally and mental prisoners of themselves. It helped them to finally be free
Romelia: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE REFERENCES THAT YOU USED WHILE RESEARCHING THIS BOOK?
Phoenix Gibbs: I used the example of my ancestors and guides and what they experienced, sacrificed and suffered for me to have the opportunity and gifts to write, teach and share. It is a way for me to give back to them and pay respects to them and what they were trying to accomplish when they were living.
Romelia: WHAT DO YOU THINK MOST CHARACTERIZES YOUR WRITING?
Phoenix Gibbs: My essence, honesty, and transparency.
Romelia: WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART OF WRITING THIS BOOK?
Phoenix Gibbs: The hardest part of writing my book was going back into my past where I experienced abuse and deep trauma.
Romelia: ARE THERE VOCABULARY WORDS OR CONCEPTS IN YOUR BOOK THAT MAY BE NEW TO READERS? DEFINE SOME OF THOSE.
Phoenix Gibbs: I made sure that the words and sentences were aligned with how my readers feel, think and speak so they can truly resonate with my writing and feel emotions.
Romelia: ARE THERE UNDERREPRESENTED GROUPS OR IDEAS FEATURED IN YOUR BOOK? IF SO, DISCUSS THEM.
Phoenix Gibbs: Yes, the underrepresented groups in my book are those who feel they are not being seen or heard. The ones who are afraid to speak their truth to themselves as well as to the world due to fear of being judged.
Romelia: ARE THERE MISCONCEPTIONS THAT PEOPLE HAVE ABOUT YOUR BOOK? IF SO, EXPLAIN.
Phoenix Gibbs: I don’t feel there are any misconceptions that will people will have about my book because my book is based on purely inspiring others to practice self-love and compassion.
Romelia: WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOUR SUBJETC/GENRE, THAT THEY NEED TO KNOW?
Phoenix Gibbs: I feel that most people don’t realize how powerful affirmations can help create a fulfilled life just by speaking positive words and thinking positive thoughts.
Romelia: WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Phoenix Gibbs: My wife, my near death experience and my heart beat which is one of the most amazing gifts I was given.
Romelia: HOW DID YOU GET TO BE WHERE YOU ARE IN YOUR LIFE TODAY?
Phoenix Gibbs: I never gave up on myself especially during the hard times in my life and kept in mind that I had to stand in my power of who I am and did not feel the need to follow others to be happy. I took responsibility for my happiness and peace.
Romelia: WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE AUTHORS THAT YOU FEEL WERE INFLUENTIAL IN YOUR WORK? WHAT IMPACT HAVE THEY HAD ON YOUR WRITING?
Phoenix Gibbs: Louise Hay who saved my life with her book “You Can Heal Your Life”. I was introduced to her in a time of my life where there was so much darkness and despair.
Romelia: WHAT DID YOU FIND MOST USEFUL IN LEARNING TO WRITE? WHAT WAS LEAST USEFUL OR MOST DESTRUCTIVE?
Phoenix Gibbs: I found writing to be a useful tool to help with my healing and to help me find and use my voice.
Romelia: ARE YOU A FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME WRITER? HOW DOES THAT AFFECT YOUR WRITING?
Phoenix Gibbs: I am a full time writer/author. It is one of the most amazing gifts I could have ever given myself becoming a full time entrepreneur.
Romelia: WHAT ARE SOME DAY JOBS THAT YOU HAVE HELD? IF ANY OF THEM IMPACTED YOUR WRITING, SHARE AN EXAMPLE.
Phoenix Gibbs: I was a front desk receptionist in corporate America for over 20 years.
Romelia: HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT EBOOKS VS PRINT BOOKS AND ALTERNATIVE VS CONVENTIONAL PUBLISHING?
Phoenix Gibbs: I love printed books because you can feel them and it is tangible and you can feel the energy of the writer in the printed book.
Romelia: WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE FUTURE OF READING/WRITING?
Phoenix Gibbs: There are so many levels of reading and writing taking place in the future and I think it will be more digital than anything else which is pretty sad.
Romelia: WHAT MAKES YOUR BOOK STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD?
Phoenix Gibbs: My book stands out from the crowd because it is a unique affirmation book that was created around my life and things I have experienced and not just affirmations I simply created.
Romelia: DO YOU WRITE MORE BY LOGIC OR INTUITION, OR SOME COMBINATION OF THE TWO? SUMMARIZE YOUR WRITING PROCESS.
Phoenix Gibbs: I write with intuition and spirit. I allow my spirit guides to flow through me when I am writing and pay close attention to the messages that they give me.
Romelia: WHAT IS YOUR ROLE IN THE WRITING COMMUNITY?
Phoenix Gibbs: I don’t play any role in the writing community. I am more of a student who absorbs lessons daily to improve my writing skills.
Romelia: WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU WORKING ON AT THE PRESENT? WHAT DO YOUR PLANS FOR FUTURE PROJECTS INCLUDE?
Phoenix Gibbs: Working on affirmation cards to go along with my book as well as partnering up with those who are in need of support by creating a campaign of selling 100 books per month and contributing a portion of proceeds.
