Romelia: WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF YOUR ARTISTIC PROCESS?
Tierra Wilson: The most difficult part for me was finding meaningful character names. I researched different cultures to help bring out my artistic style.
Romelia: DOES YOUR FAMILY SUPPORT YOUR CAREER AS A WRITER?
Tierra Wilson: Yes.
Romelia: IF YOU HAD TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENTLY AS A CHILD OR TEENAGER TO BECOME A BETTER WRITER AS AN ADULT, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
Tierra Wilson: I would’ve started writing at an earlier age.
Romelia: HOW LONG ON AVERAGE DOES IT TAKE YOU TO WRITE A BOOK?
Tierra Wilson: Roughly 1year.
Romelia: DO YOU BELIEVE IN WRITER’S BLOCK?
Tierra Wilson: Oh certainly. I experience writer’s block often, especially when I’m describing scenery.
Romelia: AT WHAT POINT DO YOU THINK SOMEONE SHOULD CALL THEMSELVES A WRITER?
Tierra Wilson: The moment they began writing freely.
Romelia: WHAT DIFFERENCE DO YOU SEE BETWEEN A WRITER AND AN AUTHOR?
Tierra Wilson: A writer is free style writing where as an Author gives more detailed and descriptive writing.
Romelia: HOW DO YOU PROCESS AND DEAL WITH NEGATIVE BOOK REVIEWS?
Tierra Wilson: It motivates me for any upcoming projects. It’s like fuel to my fire.
Romelia: WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF YOUR WRITING PROCESS?
Tierra Wilson: The most difficult part for me would be the synopsis. It’s challenging trying to give the reader information about your book without telling it all.
Romelia: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WRITING OR WHEN DID YOU START?
Tierra Wilson: I started writing about 13 years ago.
Romelia: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A WRITER WORKING ON THEIR FIRST BOOK?
Tierra Wilson: Always push yourself until the process is complete. It’s alright to take a quick break but also hold yourself accountable. Surround yourself with positive people.
Romelia: WHAT, TO YOU, ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENTS OF GOOD WRITING?
Tierra Wilson: Expression, word choice, organization, and point of view.
Romelia: WHAT COMES FIRST FOR YOU – THE PLOT OR THE CHARACTERS – AND WHY?
Tierra Wilson: The characters. Introducing the characters first helps me set the tone of the book which makes it easier to discuss the plot in detail.
Romelia: HOW DO YOU DEVELOP YOUR PLOT AND CHARACTERS?
Tierra Wilson: My plot is based on the characters struggles, characteristics, relationships, family life, and background.
Romelia: WHEN DID YOU FIRST CALL YOURSELF A WRITER?
Tierra Wilson: I first called myself a writer after documenting my pregnancy daily. I would write about my mood, foods that I loved/ hated, and the emotional, physical, and verbal abuse that I endured from my son’s father.
Romelia: HOW DO YOU USE SOCIAL MEDIA AS AN AUTHOR?
Tierra Wilson: I promote all of my book covers and add them on paperback book displays as well as ipad displays for an ebook appearance to help me promote.
Romelia: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE PART OF PUBLISHING?
Tierra Wilson: My favorite was going to the library and Starbucks to rewrite, and read over my entire book in sections. My least favorite was confirming the editing notes and rearranging sentences or paragraphs.
Romelia: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO AN AUTHOR WHO WANTED TO DESIGN THEIR OWN COVER?
Tierra Wilson: I’d say go for it. The more you know the better of an Author or writer you’ll become.
Romelia: HOW MANY BOOKS HAVE YOU WRITTEN AND WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE?
Tierra Wilson: 3 written and 2 published. My favorite is L.O.V.E you First
Romelia: WHAT PART OF THE BOOK DID YOU HAVE THE HARDEST TIME WRITING?
Tierra Wilson: I had the hardest time writing about my past abusive relationship. Often, it would cause writer’s block and some days it was emotionally draining.
Romelia: WHAT PART OF THE BOOK WAS THE MOST FUN TO WRITE?
Tierra Wilson: The beginning was the most fun because I went back to my childhood and my teenage years.
Romelia: WHICH OF THE CHARACTERS DO YOU RELATE TO THE MOST AND WHY?
Tierra Wilson: La’Tavia. I relate to her the most because she is fierce, sassy, confident, and beautiful but a dangerous love left her broken inside.
Romelia: IF YOU’RE PLANNING A SEQUEL. CAN YOU SHARE A TINY BIT ABOUT YOUR PLANS FOR IT?
Tierra Wilson: I’m not planning one at the moment.
Romelia: TELL US SOMETHING FUNNY ABOUT YOUR ADULT LIFE.
Tierra Wilson: Sometimes I sit in front of the mirror listening to all types of music and act as if I’m making a music video.
Romelia: DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN A FEW SENTENCES. TELL US SOMETHING WE DO NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU AND SOMETHING YOU HATE ABOUT THE WORLD.
