Dr. Camella S. Cooke
The Book Prophetic Writings is a book of knowledge that was birthed from the revelation of God’s Word. God is speaking to you, are you listening? Do you truly have an ear to hear what the Spirit of God is saying to the Church? In this book, God is speaking to the minds and hearts of those who will hear His voice and yield to His instructions. Reading this book may cause you to laugh; it will pierce your heart, challenge your thinking, and change your destiny if you allow it too. Prophetic Writings has the answer that addresses any situation you are going through and can lead you into the direction for making right choices. Allow God to touch you through reading this book, but it’s up to you to step forward and make the change.
Romelia: WHAT IS THE MOST VALUABLE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN ABOUT WRITING?
Camella Cooke: The most valuable piece of advice that I have been given about writing, is to write it, (the vision) and to make it plain.
Romelia: HOW MANY HOURS A DAY DO YOU WRITE?
Camella Cooke: Most of the time it depends on the project that I’m preparing, but I write at least 8 hours a day.
Romelia: WHEN YOU ARE WRITING AN EMOTIONAL OR DIFFICULT SCENE, HOW DO SET THE MOOD?
Camella Cooke: I set the mood from being in a quiet place.
Romelia: WHOM DO YOU TRUST FOR OBJECTIVE AND CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM OF YOUR WORK?
Camella Cooke: I trust my husband, Deacon Dirik Cooke for objective and constructive criticism of my work.
Romelia: HOW DID YOU BECOME INVOLVED WITH THE SUBJECT OR THEME OF YOUR BOOK?
Camella Cooke: My spiritual growth was the result of publishing and writing my book, which helped me to overcome fear, friction, and failure.
Romelia: WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WRITE IN YOUR PARTICULAR FIELD OR GENRE? IF YOU WRITE MORE THAN ONE, HOW DO YOU BALANCE THEM?
Camella Cooke: I chose to write poetry because I am a musician and I write music as well. As a result of writing my book, and knowing the hardship that I endured during the early stages of my life, it compelled me to write.
Romelia: WHAT CULTURAL VALUE DO YOU SEE IN WRITING?
Camella Cooke: The cultural value that I have is understanding that souls are precious in the sight of God and those that are lost need a Savior. God uses miracles, signs, and wonders to change cultural behaviors.
Romelia: HOW DOES YOUR BOOK RELATE TO YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE OR OTHER LIFE PATH?
Camella Cooke: It relates first to me personally because of the things that God has delivered me from and it relates to my relationship and fellowship with God’s Word.
Romelia: WHAT WERE YOUR GOALS AND INTENTIONS IN THIS BOOK, AND HOW WELL DO YOU FEEL YOU ACHIEVED THEM?
Camella Cooke: My ultimate goal was to perfect my writing skills because I missed writing, reading, spelling, speaking, and comprehension during my earlier years of school. This affected my speech, but God pulled the poetry, the Revelations, and the confidence out of me. I intend to inspire others to fulfill what God has called them to do. I have achieved my goal and intention because of the feedback that I have received from publishing my book.
Romelia: CAN YOU SHARE SOME STORIES ABOUT PEOPLE YOU MET WHILE RESEARCHING THIS BOOK?
Camella Cooke: While working at CBN, the Christian Broadcasting Network, I met a visitor, an unknown lady that was invited to speak. This lady looked at me and said, You have a book in you, and God is going to use you to write a book. God is saying to you, write the book, write the book.” This happened at the end of 1999.
In 2000, I went to a women’s conference and met another unknown lady that had already published her book. The lady provided the information I needed for publication and in 2001, I published the first set of books that sold out and purchased the second printing. The name of my book that was from my first and second printing was entitled, Rhema Prophetic Poetry, and consisted of 57 pages. From 2010, I did nothing with my book.
I repented and started adding new poems to it as I grew in the spirit. In 2015 God allowed me to change the name to Prophetic Writings, which now consists of 133 pages and is my third edition. In 2019 it was published by dpRochelle Publishing Company and made the Best Sellers list on Amazon in three different categories, Spiritual Growth, Christian Poetry, and Black & African American Poetry.
Romelia: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE REFERENCES THAT YOU USED WHILE RESEARCHING THIS BOOK?
Camella Cooke: All of my references came straight from the Bible.
Romelia: WHAT DO YOU THINK MOST CHARACTERIZES YOUR WRITING?
Camella Cooke: Overcoming your failures and living a Spirit-filled life.
Romelia: WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART OF WRITING THIS BOOK?
Camella Cooke: Writing what was true and writing what was hurtful and affected my life.
Romelia: ARE THERE VOCABULARY WORDS OR CONCEPTS IN YOUR BOOK THAT MAY BE NEW TO READERS? DEFONE SOME OF THOSE.
Camella Cooke: None.
Romelia: ARE THERE UNDERREPRESENTED GROUPS OR IDEAS FEATURED IN YOUR BOOK? IF SO, DISCUSS THEM.
Camella Cooke: None.
Romelia: ARE THERE MISCONCEPTIONS THAT PEOPLE HAVE ABOUT YOUR BOOK? IF SO, EXPLAIN.
Camella Cooke: None.
Romelia: WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOUR SUBJECT/GENRE, THAT THEY NEED TO KNOW?
Camella Cooke: People need to know that God has a plan for their lives and has put hidden treasures of promises within them to discover.
Romelia: WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Camella Cooke: Having a God-fearing conscience about my character and knowing that God is watching my behavior, and listening to my responses.
Romelia: HOW DID YOU GET TO BE WHERE YOU ARE IN YOUR LIFE TODAY?
Camella Cooke: Because I have intimacy with God the Father, God the Son, Jesus, and God, the Holy Spirit, I grew from the Spiritual Realm of Glory to Glory, and because of God saying to me, You are my friend.”
Romelia: WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE AUTHORS THAT YOU FEEL WERE INFLUENTIAL IN YOUR WORK? WHAT IMPACT HAVE THEY HAD ON YOUR WRITING?
Camella Cooke: To be very honest, my favorite author that I felt was influential in writing my book was the voice of the Holy Spirit that spoke from the Word of God.
Romelia: WHAT DID YOU FIND MOST USEFUL IN LEARNING TO WRITE? WHAT WAS LEAST USEFUL OR MOST DESTRUCTIVE?
Camella Cooke: The ability to flow with the rhythms and with the rhymes was most useful to my writings. My spelling was most destructive because when I received thought it was hard to remember, so immediately, I had to write it down.
Romelia: ARE YOU A FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME WRITER? HOW DOES THAT AFFECT YOUR WRITING?
Camella Cooke: I am both because I am available to write what God wants to release. When God speaks, wherever, whenever, and however, I am listening, and I stop what I’m doing to write what He is speaking to my spirit-man.
Romelia: WHAT ARE SOME DAY JOBS THAT YOU HAVE HELD? IF ANY OF THEM IMPACTED YOUR WRITING, SHARE AN EXAMPLE.
Camella Cooke: Working at CBN for 10 years, inspired my spiritual growth in ministry. Leading and playing as a worship and praise leader for 50 years is a lifetime job. Experiencing and practicing both ministries impacted my style of writing.
Romelia: HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT EBOOKS VS PRINT BOOKS AND ALTERNATIVE VS CONVENTIONAL PUBLISHING?
Camella Cooke: As long as the Gospel of Jesus Christ is being preached to reach souls for the Kingdom of God, I feel that God is present.
Romelia: WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE FUTURE OF READING/WRITING?
Camella Cooke: I feel that it will continue because it is a tool to carry out the plan and purpose of God. God said that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
Romelia: WHAT MAKES YOUR BOOK STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD?
Camella Cooke: My book tells my story, and my story is different from anyone else because I used poetry to demonstrate how individuals can be the change to impact others.
Romelia: DO YOU WRITE MORE BY LOGIC OR INTUITION, OR SOME COMBINATION OF THE TWO? SUMMARIZE YOUR WRITING PROCESS.
Camella Cooke: I can’t understand anything without God giving me the ability and the opportunity to seek Him for instructions and directions. However, my process of writing involves, getting quiet, listening for a topic, receiving the topic, searching the evidence, correcting the evidence, verifying the evidence, proof-reading, editing, and launching. I write from my thoughts and meditate on the ideas that come from them.
Romelia: WHAT IS YOUR ROLE IN THE WRITING COMMUNITY?
Camella Cooke: Facebook, Youtube, Road Ministry, Groups, Retreats, Women’s events like conferences, Musical Workshops, and as a Worship Leader.
Romelia: WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU WORKING ON AT THE PRESENT? WHAT DO YOUR PLANS FOR FUTURE PROJECTS INCLUDE?
Camella Cooke: I am sharing my book and branding it on different locations through the website. I am also putting excerpts from it on Facebook. I plan to go full-time in ministry, re-cord my written music, and publish a couple of more books that have already been written.
Romelia: DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN A FEW SENTENCES. TELL US SOMETHING WE DO NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU AND SOMETHING YOU HATE ABOUT THE WORLD.
Camella Cooke: I love people and I love to see people happy and whole. I started late in life finding myself and what I was called to become. I’ve learned that if God has His hands on your life, and if you yield to His calling you can accomplish His purpose, and direct others to find their way into the Kingdom of God. What I don’t like is even though the church is in the world, the church is not preaching the same Gospel message that Jesus taught, which was about the Kingdom of God.
